This course runs for 3 hours (1-4 PM)
This course covers the fundamentals of Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS), from how a droplet cell sorter works to how to measure and improve cell sorting performance, as well as discussing methods to optimize sample preparation for cell sorting. The class is intended for anyone who is new to cell sorting or simply wants to further hone their cell sorting skills. It is assumed that students taking this course already have some background knowledge in Flow Cytometry (such as is taught in our Principles class). For MSKCC researchers who wish to specifically use our sorters, this class is required in addition to our Principles of Flow Cytometry course as part of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility’s mandatory training program for new independent users , which also requires at a minimum of 5 hands-on sessions with the FCCF staff after completing the course.
