The Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers a one- to two-year fellowship for qualified physicians trained in pediatric hematology/oncology and who wish to pursue further training in stem cell transplantation. The program performs approximately 60 allogeneic transplants a year and fellows are trained in all aspects of conventional, T cell depleted, and cord blood transplantation. Fellows will participate in both inpatient and outpatient care settings, and are expected to become involved with some aspect of clinical research.
In addition they are exposed to lab-based aspects of the program including NK cell and HLA genotyping; detection of donor/host chimerism; marrow and PBSC collection, processing, and cryopreservation; graft fractionation including selection of CD34+ primitive progenitors, T cell depletion, the isolation of selected cells such as NK cells and antigen-specific T cells for adoptive immunotherapy; and assessment of immune reconstitution. Broadening the fellow’s experience are weekly rounds and conferences attended by members of the pediatric as well as adult stem cell transplant services. The center has an active cell therapy program which complements the transplant program.
