1. When did the MSK Pediatric PGY2 Oncology Residency Program begin?
The residency enrolled its first class in July 2011.
2. Is the MSK PGY2 Pediatric Oncology Residency Program accredited by ASHP?
Yes, the PGY-2 Pediatric Oncology Residency Program obtained full accreditation status in 2012.
3. What teaching opportunities are available to residents?
Residents have many opportunities to teach various learners through planned teaching experiences such as Case Presentations, Journal Club, and Oncology Didactic Lectures. Based upon requests for student rotations from local colleges of pharmacy, there may be opportunities to precept pharmacy students in the second half of the academic year. Additionally, when opportunities are available, residents may elect to provide an on-site lecture to pharmacy students at the Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy in New Jersey.
4. Does a PGY2 resident need to be licensed in New York State?
Yes, all residents must be qualified for licensure in New York State and must successfully obtain their license by October 1st. 5. Do residents have an office and desk area?
The residents from both the adult and pediatric oncology programs share an office space with clinical pharmacy specialists/preceptors. Each resident is provided a desk, telephone, and personal computer connected to the Internet and hospital Intranet. Virtual Desktop Computer access is also granted. Residents are able to print documents from a shared laser printer. General office supplies are readily available.
6. What learning materials are available for residents?
Residents have access to Memorial Sloan Kettering’s edical library. In addition, the hospital Intranet provides electronic access to a large volume of journals and reference books. Electronic documents not immediately available through the medical library may be obtained via the document-delivery service.
7. Does Memorial Sloan Kettering support travel to conferences?
Residents are expected to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December to support residency recruitment for the following year. Residents are also required to attend the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) Annual Meeting (in May) to present their research projects (via poster presentation). Meeting attendance for both conferences is fully funded (registration, lodging, travel, meals, ground transportation).
8. What benefits are the residents offered during their residency?
Residents are compensated with an annual salary of $65,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package, medical/dental insurance, and 15 paid days off during the year. Memorial Sloan Kettering offers subsidized housing for pharmacy residents.
