Dr. Diana Roth O’Brien guides precise radiation treatment for people with breast, gynecologic, and gastrointestinal (GI) cancers at MSK in Manhattan and MSK Bergen.

Hi, I’m Dr. Diana Roth O’Brien, a radiation oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, and at MSK Bergen in New Jersey.

I’ve always loved science and actually began my career as a researcher in the MSK labs. But taking the elevator to the cafeteria every day alongside patients and their families made me realize that while my work was lifesaving over time, I wanted to help people with cancer in a more immediate way. So I decided to become a radiation oncologist, a job that allows me to be an active partner, guide, and source of comfort for patients going through treatments.

I know that appointments can sometimes feel like a lot coming at you all at once, with so many terms that seem like a totally different language. My goal is to slow things down for you. We’ll start with an overview of what’s happened so far. Then I’ll explain how radiation fits into your plan, what the appointments entail, the side effects we’ll manage together, and a way to reach us with questions.

I’ve been a patient before, and I know how you’re feeling. Cancer care can be overwhelming, but my role and my team’s focus will be to make sure you know you are not alone at any step.
