I believe every patient with cancer deserves the time and support to understand what they are facing and what comes next.
Hi, I'm Dr. Alexander Shoushtari, a melanoma medical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I specialize in melanomas that are not related to sun exposure, which include those starting in the back of the eye, the anal or genital tracts, or on the soles of the feet.
Because these melanomas are uncommon, many patients tell me I'm the first doctor who can say, "Yeah, I've seen this many times before." Being able to offer answers and help people understand all of their options, including clinical trials, is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
I have particular expertise in cellular therapy, a promising new type of treatment that trains your immune cells to attack the cancer. But every person is different, and I work hard to understand who you are so I can match your specific needs with the best tools we have to offer.
I am the child of immigrants and grew up in a blue-collar family. Whatever your background or circumstances, I will take the time to help you understand your treatment and put together a plan you feel good about. We’re in this together.
