Dr. Edward Avila cares for people experiencing seizures and neurologic complications of cancer at MSK, helping ease symptoms and guide next steps with confidence.

I was drawn to medicine because I liked helping people, but also because my father had always wanted to become a doctor himself. In many ways, I feel like I’ve carried that dream forward on his behalf.

Hi, I’m Dr. Edward Avila, a neurologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. When cancer or its treatment affects the brain or nervous system, patients are referred to me.

My role is to help diagnose what’s happening and to come up with the best next steps for you. Sometimes that means identifying the right treatment. Other times, it’s reviewing medicines that may be causing your side effects.

At MSK, I’m able to take the time to really work through complicated cases, thanks to the very latest diagnostic tools.

All the while, I never lose sight of the fact that I’m with you when you’re going through one of the hardest points in your life. Of course, you may be feeling scared and overwhelmed, but here, we approach care holistically. And when you come to see me, my goal is that you leave each visit with confidence.
