Dr. James Eastham, Chief of Urology at MSK, cares for people with prostate cancer, combining active surveillance and nerve-sparing surgery with expert guidance and compassion.
Hi, I’m James Eastham, Chief of Urology and a prostate cancer surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Not all men diagnosed with prostate cancer require treatment. Some cancers are low risk and don't benefit from surgery or radiation. It takes a lot of experience and special expertise to know when treatment is necessary and when it’s safe to closely monitor the cancer. And that’s what we offer our patients at MSK: an individualized approach to care.
For those patients which we do recommend be treated, we use the most advanced imaging and surgical techniques to maximize preservation of the delicate nerves and structures to make your recovery as quick and complete as possible.
I consider myself to be both a realist and an optimist. I want to earn your trust by being direct and honest, while giving you reason to be hopeful. There are many exciting advances for treating prostate cancer, with many more on the horizon.
Together, we'll come up with a treatment plan that’s best for you and the way you want to live.
