More than 40 years ago, I wrote in a small blue notebook that I wanted to become a pediatric oncologist because it combined meaningful science with lifelong relationships. That idea has shaped my entire career.

Hi, I'm Dr. Leonard Wexler, and I’m a pediatric oncologist at MSK Kids, the pediatric program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I care for children with rare cancers that arise in bones, muscles, and connective tissues. I see patients either at my clinic in Manhattan or in MSK Monmouth in New Jersey.

After four decades, I’ve learned people are craving clarity when everything feels frightening and overwhelming. I promise you will never leave a visit with me unsure about what is happening or what comes next. From diagnosis through treatment, care moves quickly and seamlessly, so you can focus on your child rather than navigating a system. At MSK, there is a level of focused expertise that simply does not exist elsewhere.

Cancer is also personal to me. Multiple generations of my family have been treated right here at MSK. I understand how deeply a diagnosis can shake a family’s sense of normal.

But I want you to know that it is possible to move beyond cancer and have a life with graduations, weddings, new babies, and other moments that matter.

When you come to see me, I am thinking beyond today. I am thinking about your child’s future and all the life that lies ahead.
