Mindful Breathing for Radiation (Malik Cadwell)

This mindfulness-based meditation is focused on reducing feelings of anxiety, worry, and uncertainty you may experience before or during radiation therapy. Throughout this mediation there will be pauses and moments of silence to help you practice. (7 minutes)

Welcome to Mindful Breathing for Radiation. Patients often experience anxiety and stress before and during radiation therapy. As you prepare for and undergo your radiation treatment, use this brief Mindful Breathing exercise. to help you calm your body and mind.

Start by finding a comfortable position, whether it's sitting or lying down. Close your eyes and take a few slow deep breaths, allowing your body to relax and settle into the present moment.

Bring your attention inward and notice any areas of tension or discomfort in your body. As you inhale, imagine breathing in a soothing healing energy. And as you exhale, imagine releasing any tension or stress from your body. body. Continue the breathing for a few moments, allowing your body to relax further with each breath.

Now, shift your focus to the sensation of your body connecting with the surface beneath you. Feel the support beneath you, whether it's a chair, cushion, or bed. Notice how your body receives the support.

Acknowledge any thoughts, emotions, or concerns that arise regarding your upcoming scan. Instead of trying to push them away, allow them to surface without judgment. Recognize that these feelings are natural and valid. Give yourself permission to feel them, while also acknowledging that they do not define you.

Bring your attention to your breath once again. Notice the sensation of each inhale and exhale. Sense your breath flowing throughout your body, bringing a sense of calm and balance.

Direct your attention to the present moment, right here, right now. Imagine a warm, gentle light surrounding your body. This light represents healing and positivity. Visualize it expanding with each breath, enveloping your entire being with its comforting glow. Allow this light to penetrate any areas of tension or discomfort, soothing and healing them.

Repeat these phrases silently or out loud to yourself. May I remember that I am strong and resilient. May I trust in my body's ability to heal and restore itself. May I release fear and embrace peace and calm. May I welcome the support and care of those around me.

Take a moment to express appreciation for your body's ability to undergo the scan. For the medical professionals who are assisting you, for the technology that is available for your benefit. Allow a sense of appreciation for your own strength and resilience.

Slowly, bring your awareness back to your physical surroundings, taking in the sights and sounds of your environment as you open your eyes. Take a few more deep breaths, carrying the sense of calm and relaxation with you as you continue your Okay.
