Dr. Diane Reidy-Lagunes: Hi, I’m Dr. Diane Reidy-Lagunes and this is Cancer Straight Talk from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a podcast to help educate patients and their family members on current medical technology and advances in oncology. I’ve been a Medical Oncologist for 15 years. I care for some of the more aggressive cancers of the GI tract like colon and pancreas cancers. And I spend a lot of time with patients and their families that are frightened and trying to decipher and process all the information out there, that can be daunting particularly when some of it is untrue. And some of those claims aren't even discussed with docs, so patients assume their fact. Other patients attempt to discuss with their healthcare team. The clinicians who stretch so thin with limited time aren’t able to provide adequate discussion.

The purpose of this podcast is to help you understand that information. The good news is we are living in a time where there is an explosion of medical technology and research that's given us the ability to discover new treatments and even cures. Cancer Straight Talk from MSK will bring together national experts and patients fighting these diseases to have straightforward, evidence-based conversations. Our mission is to educate and empower you and your family members to make the right decisions and live happier, healthier lives. We invite you to be part of the conversation. You can do that by visiting us at mskcc.org/podcast onward and upward.
