This video explains how to shower with Hibiclens before your surgery or procedure.
You need to shower with Hibiclens before your surgery. Hibiclens is a skin cleanser, that kills germs for up to 24 hours after you use it. Showering with Hibiclens before surgery will help lower your risk of infection after surgery.
You can buy Hibiclens at your local pharmacy without a prescription.
You will shower with Hibiclens twice: once the night before your surgery and once the morning of your surgery.
The night before your surgery, shower using Hibiclens. If you're going to wash your hair, face, or genital area, do those things before using Hibiclens.
Once you've rinsed your body, open the Hibiclens bottle and pour some into your hand or a clean washcloth. Move away from the shower stream and rub it gently over your body, from your neck to your feet. Then, rinse.
Make sure you don't let Hibiclens get into your eyes, ears, mouth, genital area, or any wounds or deep scrapes. Don't use any other soap after using the Hibiclens.
After you're done, dry yourself off with a clean towel. Don't put on any lotion, cream, powder, deodorant, makeup, perfume, or cologne after showering with Hibiclens.
The morning of your surgery, shower with Hibiclens just before you leave. Use the Hibiclens the same way you did the night before.
If you have any questions about showering with Hibiclens, call your doctor's office.
