In early 2017 a global collaboration of eight cancer centers led by Memorial Sloan Kettering and coordinated by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), released its first batch of data: genomic sequencing information on tumors from over 19,000 cancer patients, linked to information about their clinical care.
Titled AACR Project GENIE, the project fulfills an unmet need in oncology by providing the statistical power necessary to improve clinical decision-making.
In this video, Dr. Charles Sawyers, Chair of MSK’s Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program and who heads the project’s steering committee, discusses how GENIE will enable researchers to study the natural history of tumors with particular cancer-related gene mutations and how these mutations correlate with patient outcomes.
