Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory

Led by Dr. Irene Orlow, the Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory supports investigators from the S.O.A.R. and Clinical Research programs, through:

  1. Guidance and recommendations for the procurement and transportation of specimens (sample type, collection tube/vessel, timing and temperature, etc)

  2. Initial processing of specimens (e.g. isolation and aliquoting of blood derived fractions, urine, saliva)

  3. Banking and preparation of specimens for shipment to collaborators and/or outside testing laboratories

  4. Extraction and characterization of DNA/RNA

  5. Experimental testing

New assays can be set up according to the investigational needs and availability of dedicated equipment (e.g. medium throughput genotyping and/or methylation using MassArray, ELISA, comet assay).
