Yoga is a safe, low-impact fitness practice that strengthens leg and core muscles, builds bone density, and promotes pelvic stability. Some cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, hormonal therapies, and radiotherapy, can weaken bones or cause peripheral neuropathy, a painful numbness or tingling in your hands and feet. Research studies at MSK have shown yoga can ease neuropathy pain and improve your balance when walking by developing body awareness.
Guided by an MSK yoga instructor, Yoga for Better Balance is a great option for people interested in trying yoga who need a gentle activity as they recover from surgery and treatment. This class will include standing and seated positions.
