Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) today announced the following awards and appointments:

Vinod Balachandran Awarded the 2023 FNIH Trailblazer Prize for Clinician-Scientists

Vinod Balachandran, MD, hepatopancreatobiliary surgeon, was awarded the 2023 Trailblazer Prize for Clinician-Scientists by The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH). The FNIH’s Trailblazer Prize recognizes the outstanding contributions of early career clinician-scientists, whose research translates basic discovery research into novel approaches for diagnosing, preventing, treating, or curing disease, and disability. Dr. Balachandran was awarded for his groundbreaking research on immunotherapies for pancreatic cancer.

MSK Ranked the Best Cancer Center in the Northeast and First in the Nation for Urology Care

MSK has been recognized as the best cancer center in the northeast, the number two hospital for cancer care in the nation, and the number one hospital nationally for urology care by U.S. News & World Report in its annual Best Hospitals listing. MSK has consistently ranked among the top two cancer hospitals in the U.S. and the top-ranked cancer center in the northeast since these rankings were established more than 30 years ago.

MSK’s Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship First in the US to Receive Accreditation as a European Training Centre in Gynecological Oncology

MSK’s Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship program, has been accredited as a European Training Centre in Gynecological Oncology by the European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO). ESGO establishes gynecological cancers and acts as the European authority in the field of oncology. MSK is the first and only United States training program and third country outside of the European Union to be accredited by ESGO.

MSK Named One of America’s Best-In-State Employers 2023 by Forbes

MSK was recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best-In-State Employers 2023. Forbes collaborated with Statista to survey 70,000 workers at companies with a minimum of 500 employees in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Participants were asked if they would recommend their employer to others, and to evaluate their employer based on working conditions, diversity, compensation packages, potential for development, and company image.

William Rosa Selected for the Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program

William Rosa, PhD, MBE, MS, behavioral scientist, was selected for the prestigious Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The program was created to increase the representation of faculty from historically disadvantaged backgrounds who can achieve senior rank in academic medicine, dentistry, or nursing.

Steven Kaell Named to Chief Investment Officer’s 2023 NextGen List

Steven Kaell, managing director of Investment Strategy, was selected to Chief Investment Officer’s (CIO) Class of 2023 NextGen. The 2023 NextGen list highlights rising stars known for their virtuous mixture of financial knowledge, interpersonal skills, and forward thinking. These individuals have demonstrated an ability to anticipate trends and challenges and have already established themselves as leaders in their organizations and communities.

Jennifer Silkowitz Named 2023 Young Energy Professional of the Year

Jennifer Silkowitz, manager of Energy and Sustainability, was recently recognized as a 2023 Young Energy Professional of the Year by the New York Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers. This award is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the energy profession and to the candidate’s community in energy management achievements, and civic and humanitarian activities.

Robert Berninger Received 2023 Project of the Year by The Association of Energy Engineers

​Robert Berninger, director of Plant Operations Energy & Engineering, has been recognized by the New York Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers with the 2023 Project of the Year. This award is presented for an innovative energy management project that has helped stretch the bounds beyond normal standard practices and set the bar higher for others in the industry.
