Dr. Joseph Chan provides compassionate, research-focused care for people with lung cancer at MSK, including adenocarcinoma, squamous cell, and small cell (SCLC).

A lung cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but with clear, accurate information, our patients here at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center are equipped to make confident decisions based on what matters most to them. We come up with a plan together and help you find a sense of direction and hope during an uncertain time.

I’m Dr. Joseph Chan, a thoracic medical oncologist seeing patients at MSK. My practice focuses on treating all types of lung cancer, including adenocarcinoma, squamous cell, and small cell lung cancer.

As a physician-scientist leading a computational biology lab, my research explores the process of how cancers evolve and develop resistance to traditional therapies. Through machine learning and A.I. tools, my research aims to predict resistance patterns and treatment responses, especially focusing on EGFR mutations, small cell transformation, and squamous transformation.

Transforming laboratory insights into effective treatments is what drives my passion to help you navigate any challenge with confidence. You are the reason behind every research project I lead.

I know this journey has unknowns. When I can help ease your uncertainty, reduce your anxiety and fear, and give you hope, that's when I've truly done my job.
