Dr. Alexis Chidi shares how surgery may help some patients with stage 4 lung cancer when combined with targeted treatments.

This is one of the most exciting times in the care of people who have lung cancer, in that we have really great therapies for people who have stage 4 lung cancer. For some people the therapies are so good, eventually surgery might actually be a part of the treatment plan even though typically, medications would be the mainstay of therapy for those patients. I think that's one of the things that really only happens at a place like MSK, where we're able to give people medications, watch how they do, and if it seems like the addition of surgery to the medication regimen might actually prolong or extend the patient's life, then that's something that we can actually do. And we've seen really great outcomes with that.
