Alexis Chidi, MD, PhD, MSPH
Thoracic Surgeon
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Assistant Attending Surgeon
I am a thoracic surgeon who cares for people with lung cancer and other cancers of the chest, including:
- Esophageal cancer
- Thymoma
- Mediastinal Tumors
- Chest Wall Tumors
- Pleural mesothelioma cancers
- Tracheal diseases
I also care for patients with tumors that have metastasized, or spread, to the chest from other parts of the body. I see patients at Memorial Hospital and the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York City and Memorial Sloan Kettering Nassau on Long Island.
I have a special interest in early cancer detection and serve as Co-Director of MSK’s Lung Cancer Screening Program in which we work with people at higher risk of lung cancer to find and treat suspicious lung nodules before cancer spreads. I am highly trained in using the latest minimally invasive techniques including robotic bronchoscopy, advanced endoscopy, video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS), and robotic surgery.

As your doctor, I will take the time to learn about your concerns, priorities, and goals. I will give you and your loved ones all the information you need to make the best decisions about your care. For some patients, surgery is just one part of a more complex treatment plan that may also include radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy (medications that train your immune system to attack tumor cells), or targeted therapy (medications that attack tumor cells with certain markers). I will help you figure out which combination of treatments may help you most and coordinate your care with your doctors at home as well as our incredible team of medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, pulmonologists, and gastroenterologists.
When it is time for surgery, I will work with you to decide whether a minimally invasive approach is possible. I will walk you through every part of the process, from pre-operative preparation to the surgical plan to the expectations for recovery in the hospital and at home. Although a new diagnosis can be stressful and frightening, my team and I will be with you every step of the way.
I became a thoracic surgeon because it allowed me the chance to treat patients facing challenging diagnoses with empathy and compassion while providing them with high-quality surgical care and access to advanced surgical techniques. I truly enjoy getting to know my patients and their families and will go the extra mile to help you achieve the best possible outcome.
When I am not in the operating room or clinic, I devote my time to clinical research focused on improving access to lung cancer screening, clinical trials, and the latest treatments for cancers of the chest. I am also involved in policy and advocacy efforts to make it easier for patients like you to receive the highest-quality cancer care.
In my free time, I love cooking, traveling, and exploring art, architecture, food, and wine in New York City.
A thoracic (thor-A-sik) surgeon is a doctor with special training in surgery on the chest, lungs, trachea (windpipe), and thymus.
