We want to let you know about a voluntary recall of large alcohol prep pads manufactured by Cardinal Health because of potential quality concerns.
What this product is used for
These are alcohol-soaked pads often used to clean your skin before giving yourself a shot or cleaning medical devices such as catheters and medicine vials.
How MSK has responded
At the time of this notice, the manufacturer reported that the issue was found on routine sterility testing, no patient harm had occurred, and that the overall risk to patients was low. As a result of the recall, MSK has removed the product from all patient care areas and is now using a different sterile alcohol pad.
Since alcohol pads are commonly used at home by our patients, we believe it is important to share this information with you.
What you should do
If you have any of the recalled alcohol prep pads at home, please throw them in the trash. Buy alcohol wipes containing 70% isopropyl alcohol and clearly labeled as sterile from a local pharmacy.
