Cancer Screening at the MSK Ralph Lauren Center

The MSK Ralph Lauren Center (RLC) offers Harlem and the community access to screening tests for breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancers. We also offer lung cancer screening tests at other MSK locations. The best way to know what screening tests are right for you is to know your risk for cancer. Your cancer risk means your likely chances of getting a type of cancer. The RLC care team can help you know your risk.

If you are uninsured or underinsured and a resident of New York State, you may be able to get a screening test for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers at no cost through the New York State Cancer Services Program. RLC staff can help determine if the program is right for you.

Colorectal cancer

During a visit to RLC for colorectal cancer screening, you will have 2 options to choose from:

A colonoscopy is the only test that can find and prevent cancer. It finds polyps and removes them during the same procedure. Polyps are abnormal (not normal) growths on the inside lining of the colon that can grow into cancer. The RLC care team can refer you to a location convenient for you to get a colonoscopy.

A FIT test looks for blood in your stool (poop). It can be given to you during the visit at RLC. If you have a telemedicine appointment, the FIT test will be mailed to you. You give a stool sample for this test and send it to a lab for testing. If there are signs of blood in your stool, you will have a follow-up colonoscopy. The RLC care team can refer you to a location convenient for you to get a colonoscopy.

Prostate cancer

During a visit to RLC for prostate cancer screening, we will take a sample of your blood for a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test the same day. A PSA test is a simple blood test for PSA, a protein made by cells in your prostate. The prostate cancer screening test measures how much PSA is in your blood. PSA is a protein made by cells in your prostate. It’s normal to have a low level of PSA.

If the screening test is right for you, MSK will arrange a free ride to your appointment and back. This may be on the same day as your visit or at a different time that works for you.
