Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers a four-year ACGME-accredited fellowship that prepares trainees for certification and an academic career in the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology.

Designed within a multidisciplinary setting, the fellowship program provides fellows with the most effective education and training to ensure the development of the skills necessary to practice gynecologic oncology. In addition to time spent on the Gynecology Service, rotations are available on the Urology, Colorectal, Gastric and Mixed Tumor, Radiation Therapy, and Chemotherapy Services.

Fellows are responsible for preoperative and postoperative patient care, and they will perform surgical operations under the attending surgeon’s direction. Fellows will help supervise and instruct the residents on the Gynecology Service, as well as participate in outpatient clinics, rounds, lectures, and weekly treatment planning conferences.

The first year of the fellowship will be dedicated solely to basic science or clinical science research, pending review of a research proposal submitted by the fellow. During the second year, the fellow will either continue basic science or clinical science research and participate on the Medical Oncology Service, as well as participate in some clinical care. The third year is comprised of clinical rotations on the Gynecology Service for nine months with two months of elective time spent in Radiation Oncology. In the final year, the fellow will rotate for seven months on the Gynecology Service; the other five months will be spent rotating on the Colorectal Service (two months), Genitourinary Service (two months), and elective time (final month).

Eligibility

Applicants must have completed their core residency training in obstetrics and gynecology prior to beginning the gynecologic oncology fellowship. The residency program should be an approved program in the United States or Canada, and applicants must be eligible for American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology certification. Foreign medical graduates with equivalent qualifications are also eligible to apply and must have completed all three of the USMLE examinations.
