Get to Know Me

I am a specialist in pediatric palliative care and pain management and a member of the MSK Kids Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT). I am board certified in pediatrics and in hospice and palliative medicine.

Palliative care is a specialty that focuses on optimizing quality of life and promoting comfort for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer. We provide an extra layer of support for families that includes optimizing pain and symptom management, advocating for families, facilitating family and provider communication, and assisting with complex decision making.

The PACT team meets patients and families at all stages of illness. We collaborate with them and with the primary cancer care teams to ensure that their concerns, needs, and values are recognized and supported, so families can make the best healthcare decisions for their children. We see patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis and maintain long-term relationships with them and their families. We meet families wherever they are in their journeys and consider cultural and religious factors that may affect their preferences and needs. Our team is there during the joyful as well as the difficult moments, with the goal of helping them live their lives to the fullest.

In addition to my clinical work, my research focus is on pediatric bioethics. I study how patients and families make decisions and how doctors communicate with families. I am particularly interested in decision-making for children with medical complexities.

Doctors and faculty members often work with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology, and life sciences companies, and other organizations outside of MSK, to find safe and effective cancer treatments, to improve patient care, and to educate the health care community.

MSK requires doctors and faculty members to report (“disclose”) the relationships and financial interests they have with external entities. As a commitment to transparency with our community, we make that information available to the public.
