James S. Killinger, MD
Pediatric Intensivist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Division Head, Pediatric Subspecialities
I am a pediatric critical care doctor on the MSK Kids team. I care for infants, children, and young adults in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Some children need close monitoring in the PICU because of the overall state of their health. Others receive intensive therapies that require them to be watched carefully in the PICU during their treatment.
Our team in the PICU has the compassion, experience, and skill to take care of very ill young patients. This team includes pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and nurses who work closely with Memorial Sloan Kettering’s pediatric surgeons, neurosurgeons, oncologists, and bone marrow transplant specialists. With pharmacists, respiratory care specialists, and nutrition specialists at MSK as well, together we ensure that our patients receive excellent care tailored to their needs.

In addition to taking care of patients, I conduct research on the impact of varying health states on the heart. Infections, medications, heart surgery, and structural heart problems can sometimes lead to heart failure. I am interested in discovering ways to spot heart failure early so we can treat it as soon as possible.
If your child needs to stay in the PICU, we understand that this can be a challenging time for you and your family. Every member of the pediatric critical care team is dedicated to providing your child with superior care while also addressing any questions or concerns you may have during this time.
An intensivist is a doctor with special training in treating children and adolescents who are critically ill (very sick). They often work in the intensive care unit (ICU).

MSK requires doctors and faculty members to report (“disclose”) the relationships and financial interests they have with external entities. As a commitment to transparency with our community, we make that information available to the public.
