Johnny Chuieng Yi Lu, MD, MSCI
We post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

Get to Know Me
I’m a reconstructive plastic surgeon who has special training in repairing or restoring damaged nerves. I use a technique called microsurgery, which uses special tools and a microscope to repair nerves that allow your body to move and feel sensations.
I focus on treating people with facial paralysis who have lost movement in their face or their arms and shoulders (also known as a brachial plexus injury). These injuries can happen because of cancer or as a side effect of cancer treatments such as radiation. I also help repair nerves and muscles in the hands and legs.
Every patient’s injury is different. My training in both Taiwan and the United States has taught me how to use advanced techniques such as nerve grafts and muscle transplants. I use the latest approaches to create a recovery plan that fits your specific needs.
For people with facial paralysis, my goal is to help you move your face naturally again. This includes being able to close your eyes and, most importantly, being able to smile. I want to help you feel like yourself again so you can feel confident in your daily life.
I am also an expert in treating nerve pain that can come from surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. I use the latest surgical methods to reduce this pain so you can get back to a more active and comfortable life.
Besides seeing patients, I lead major research projects to find better ways to connect nerves to prosthetic (bionic) limbs. I have contributed to more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and also teach other doctors around the country the latest ways to treat nerve injuries.
In everything I do, my goal is to use the best technology and science to help my patients recover their movement, their comfort, and their quality of life.
I'm a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, which is a doctor with special training in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. These procedures make your body work better or look better.
