I am a plastic surgeon who specializes in the reconstruction of areas of the body after surgery to remove a tumor. While this includes all types of surgical reconstruction, I have a specific interest in breast reconstruction and in reconstruction of the head and neck. Reconstruction helps to restore form, function, and appearance, while enhancing a patient’s self-confidence and self-image after cancer surgery. In my practice I utilize state-of-the-art techniques to perform reconstruction, including the use of perforator flaps such as the Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP). These techniques achieve the reconstructive goals while simplifying recovery.

My research interests are focused on improving surgical reconstruction of the breast including the impact of radiation therapy on breast reconstruction, the use of new cohesive silicone gel implants, and the role of acellular human dermis and breast reconstruction.
I am also involved in teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians from around the world the latest techniques in surgical reconstruction after cancer. I currently serve on the editorial board of the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and have co-edited the text book Plastic Surgery: Indications and Practice. In addition, I have co-authored the patient education book 100 Questions and Answers about Breast Surgery.
