I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in helping older adults with cancer and their loved ones. As Director of MSK’s Psycho-Oncology of Cancer and Aging Program, I counsel patients and their families using a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches, with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral and problem-solving therapies. I have been working with people with cancer and their families for eight years and with older adults with illnesses for more than ten years.

My research examines distress and predictors of distress in people with cancer and their caregivers. I also look at distress related to care at the end of life. In addition, I develop and evaluate methods to reduce distress and improve care and quality of life and examine ways to implement these interventions in different medical settings. I am currently testing a way to help older adults with cancer and their caregivers who are dealing with anxiety. I am also working on web-based resources for distress management and making advance directives, as well as communication techniques that will ensure that people with cancer and their families understand the illness.
I am a member of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, Society of Behavioral Medicine, and Gerontological Society of America.
