Maxine S. Jochelson, MD

About Me

I am a board-certified radiologist with expertise in breast imaging as well as the interpretation of CT and PET scans. As a breast radiologist at MSK, I have the privilege of working with many of the finest doctors in the world. I also have the opportunity for a great deal of direct patient care. I have been practicing radiology for more than 35 years and have been at MSK since 2009.

As Director of Radiology at the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center in New York City, I coordinate patient care and oversee certain research programs in breast cancer imaging. My goal is to provide the best quality care for our patients.

I interpret mammograms, ultrasounds, and MRIs and perform interventional breast procedures. I also read PET/CT and diagnostic CT scans as part of the Molecular Imaging Service within the Department of Radiology. As a member of the Breast Disease Management Team, I use my expertise in breast and molecular imaging and work closely with our outstanding breast surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists to provide comprehensive care for our patients.

I am passionate about evaluating new technologies for diagnosing and staging breast cancer. I am also interested in improving the imaging assessment of people who have received treatment for cancer. One technology that I have been pioneering since I arrived at MSK is contrast enhanced mammography. This technique uses contrast dye with mammography to detect cancers that might not be seen on a routine mammogram, similar to MRI.

As Director of the Mentoring Program in Radiology at MSK, I am honored to be very involved in the education of breast-imaging fellows and residents. I am also active in the wider community. I give invited lectures on breast cancer care and current research to other breast imagers, surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists, nationally and internationally.

Clinical Trials

As home to one of the world’s top cancer research centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering is typically involved in more than 900 clinical trials at a given time. Currently, clinical trials focused on the conditions I treat are enrolling new patients. Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
