Get to Know Me

I am a board-certified infectious disease physician and Chief of the Medical Epidemiology Service. Members of this program work to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) from developing and spreading among patients and staff and are also actively engaged in several research projects on various aspects of epidemiology and prevention of HAIs.

Our research focuses on defining the rates and risks of HAIs across oncology centers. We also study novel interventions to reduce HAIs and ascertain the transmission risk of epidemiologically relevant nosocomial (hospital-related) pathogens.

My research initiatives include developing methods to integrate molecular-based diagnostic and fingerprinting techniques to elucidate transmission patterns of common nosocomial pathogens, such as Clostridium difficile and Vancomycin-resistant enterococcus. I have partnered with other New York medical centers to characterize genotypic patterns of C. difficile and detect transmission between facilities. At a national level, I have participated in several multicenter collaborations to establish benchmarks and performance measures for HAIs among oncology centers.
