Get to Know Me

I am a board-certified anatomic and molecular pathologist with subspecialty training in gastrointestinal (GI) pathology. Part of my practice focuses on the surgical pathology of the GI tract, liver, and pancreaticobiliary tree, for which I integrate morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular findings to render accurate diagnoses. As a molecular pathologist, my practice also focuses on identifying genetic alterations with diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic relevance in samples from a broad range of tumors. I am also trained as a basic scientist.

My main research interest centers on the interplay between inflammation and cancer in the GI tract. I am particularly interested in the molecular pathogenesis of inflammation-associated cancer, such as that which occurs in the colon of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, and in the inflammatory complications that arise in the GI tract secondary to immune checkpoint inhibitors, which are used to treat a broad range of malignancies. I am also interested in advancing our understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of the multiple tumor types that arise in the GI tract.

I'm a pathologist, which is a doctor who uses a microscope to make a diagnosis from cell and tissue samples. I analyze these samples to learn the cause and effects of a health issue.
