I am a medical oncologist and physician-scientist specializing in the treatment of gynecologic cancers, including:
I was drawn to a career in oncology in medical school, where I saw the resilience and courage of people with cancer. During this time, I also became aware of the physical and emotional toll that cancer can take on patients and their families. These experiences led me to dedicate myself to caring for people with cancer. Through my work as a medical oncologist, I hope to have a positive impact on patients and their loved ones during a time of immense vulnerability.

My philosophy is to treat each patient as an individual by creating a compassionate and empathetic environment. I empower my patients by providing them with information about their disease and their treatment options; this allows them to actively participate in the decision-making process.
Sometimes, the treatment that offers the best chance for cure is available through a clinical trial. I have expertise in treating cancer with standard therapies, as well as investigational treatments as part of a clinical trial. If a patient is interested in participating in a clinical trial, I take the time to explain what they can expect and answer questions.
Outside the clinic, I conduct laboratory-based research to understand how cancer cells become resistant to existing therapies. The hope is to develop treatment strategies that prevent tumors from adapting (becoming adjusted to new and different conditions) and resisting therapy. One day, this could ultimately transform cancer into a chronic (long-term) but manageable condition, like diabetes or high blood pressure.
A gynecologic (GY-neh-kuh-LAH-jik) oncologist is a cancer doctor with special training in the gynecologic system. This includes cervical, fallopian tube, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.
