I am a gynecologic oncologist who performs about 300 procedures each year for women with cancers of the genital tract. These include cervical cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, and vulvar cancer. My many years of experience allow me to offer my patients the most-advanced treatment options possible, such as minimally invasive techniques. My practice is located at Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan and MSK Westchester, in West Harrison.

I have been part of the MSK team for more than 18 years, but my connection to and passion for gynecology goes back much further: My mother was an ob-gyn. As a child, I saw the great challenges that illness presented to women, but I also saw how rewarding it could be to help them through the difficult times in their lives. I knew I wanted to follow my mother’s lead.

As part of my medical training, I spent a year in France learning from some of the pioneers of advanced laparoscopic and radical vaginal surgery. One of the procedures that I learned and have since developed expertise in is radical vaginal trachelectomy. This fertility-sparing procedure is intended for women diagnosed with early cervical cancer. I am using this background to develop new applications for robotic surgery in the field of gynecologic oncology.

Women who have received a cancer diagnosis, or who are suspected of having cancer, are often most concerned with the end result. When I meet with patients, I encourage them to focus on one step at a time. Whatever challenges may come up, I remind them that we will tackle them together. We have an entire team of experts — nurses, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and others — who want to see them get better, and we’ll do everything we can to make sure that happens.
