I joined Memorial Sloan Kettering as an oncology nurse in 2001 and became a Nurse Leader in 2005. During these years I have had the opportunity to help care for thousands of people with cancer as well as be a part of shaping improvements in our patient care services.
As a Nurse Leader I work directly with medical and administrative staff to manage our treatment teams for leukemias, hematologic diseases, and bone marrow transplantation (in adults). I am in charge of recruiting and retaining a staff of more than 50 employees, and enjoy the opportunity to mentor many of these individuals.
I am very involved in designing and implementing healthcare innovations that provide a safe and positive experience for our patients. For example, I was part of a team of physicians, administrators, and others that developed a web-based tool for Memorial Sloan Kettering patients called MYMSKCC.org. Among other things, this “portal” enables patients to see their lab results online as well as communicate with their treatment team through electronic messaging. I have lectured and written extensively on the creation and use of patient portals.
