To train the next generation of leaders in anesthesiology, the department supports ongoing mentorship. In 2017, Dr. Rebecca Twersky founded the Faculty Development Mentoring Program to formalize the faculty mentoring program. The program serves as a resource to support career development and to increase collaboration and networking opportunities. Faculty mentoring has been shown to catalyze productivity, advancement and overall job satisfaction. Junior faculty are required to meet with mentors selected from within or outside of the department to establish short and long-term goals. Junior faculty are expected to achieve tangible outcomes including:
- Increased productivity in teaching and academic performance
- Educational, research or governance activities
- Presentations at National/International conferences
- Participation of Committees for the American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA), Post-Graduate Assembly (PGA) and society meetings
- Abstract/Publications
- Grants
- Journal Reviewers
Since the inception of the program, junior faculty have strengthened their relationships with senior faculty members within the department. Junior faculty are assuming greater leadership roles both in and out of the operating room. Junior faculty are actively involved with the following internal and external committees:
Internal Committees:
- Junior Faculty Council
- Medical Council
- Ethics Committee
