Special Postdoc Events

MSK’s Postdoc Slam

Postdoc Deepti Mathur gives a three-minute presentation of her work during the MSK Postdoc Slam.

Memorial Sloan Kettering sponsors special events throughout the year to help postdocs develop their professional skills — and to celebrate their accomplishments. For details about upcoming talks and lectures open to the entire scientific community, view our events calendar.

Postdoc Slam

Modeled after the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition and the UCSF Postdoctoral Slam, the competition challenges postdocs to explain their research in three minutes or less to a lay audience using only one slide. Presentations are judged by a panel of science communications experts, researchers, and MSK community members. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three presentations.

MSK’s Annual Postdoc Symposium

The annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium gives MSK postdocs a chance to showcase their research projects to the entire MSK community. This daylong event features talks, poster presentations, and a keynote address from a nationally recognized scientist. Past speakers have included Rick Lifton, Elaine Fuchs, Eric Kandel, Christine Guthrie, Eric Betzig, and Paul Nurse.

Postdoc Appreciation Week

Established by the National Postdoctoral Association, this week celebrates and recognizes postdocs for their significant contributions to the scientific research enterprise. MSK organizes several events, videos, and tributes to honor the postdoc community.

Tri-Institutional Career Symposium

Each spring, Memorial Sloan Kettering joins forces with its partner offices at Weill Cornell Medical College and The Rockefeller University to host a one-day career symposium for graduate students and postdocs. Postdocs can gain insight into the academic job search and learn more about careers outside of academia, including opportunities in industry, finance, policy, teaching, and journalism. Representatives from more than 20 local scientific companies attend the symposium’s capstone networking event.
