MSK Monmouth's infusion suite boasts sweeping views of the property.
Memorial Sloan Kettering has had an active presence in New Jersey for the past 20 years. Now, people in the Garden State have a new option for their cancer care: Memorial Sloan Kettering Monmouth in Middletown Township, which will open in the winter. MSK Monmouth offers many of the same services as other MSK locations, just in a location more convenient for residents of central and southern New Jersey, plus Staten Island.
“We are thrilled to open a world-class facility in a marvelous location that is tranquil and convenient for so many of our patients,” says Jason Konner, Chief of Medical Oncology at MSK Monmouth.
The new space was a homecoming of sorts for a number of staffers. “Many members of our team have worked at MSK for years and already live in or near Monmouth County,” he added.
In addition to complementary services like social work, genetic testing, and nutrition counseling, MSK Monmouth has several features designed to make cancer care easier than ever, including:
A Customized Infusion Experience
Those coming in for weekly chemotherapy, a new immunotherapy treatment, a cutting-edge clinical trial, or any other type of infusion will be cared for in a space that’s private and comfortable and caters to their liking. Patients and their caregivers can adjust the temperature, lighting, and seating as they wish while enjoying sweeping property views, television, internet, refreshments, and other comforts of home.
Back to topInterventional Radiology
This specialized procedure, which uses computer-guided images to precisely pinpoint where medicine should go, used to require a trip into Manhattan. But now, interventional radiology can be performed at MSK Monmouth.
Back to topRehabilitation Catered to Individual Needs
Our rehabilitative medicine specialists help people handle the side effects and physical changes that can sometimes develop from cancer and its treatment. At our full-service therapy center at MSK Monmouth, MSK physiatrists and members of the therapy team will care for people with any type of cancer who are at any stage of care or survivorship. The space includes private rooms, semi-private areas, and a gym.
Back to topOn-site Radiation Treatments
Radiation treatment often requires daily care for weeks at a time. With a facility closer to home, our patients will have more time for what matters most.
Back to topOutpatient Surgeries
Many procedures that once required overnight stays no longer do. Our surgeons will perform a number of outpatient procedures — including biopsies, colonoscopies, and more — at MSK Monmouth so that patients can get back to their routines quickly. Our two operating rooms will be used for head and neck, thoracic, breast, gastric, urologic, gynecologic, and plastic surgeries.
Back to topAdvanced Lab Capabilities
All routine blood work can be done on site at MSK Monmouth, which means we can get results quicker, and, as a result, start or change treatment faster. We’re also performing blood transfusions on site, eliminating the need to go elsewhere.
Back to topMore to Come
In addition to MSK Monmouth and MSK Basking Ridge, we’re continuing to expand and open more centers in New Jersey, including MSK Bergen, which will be fully operational in mid-2018. In the meantime, appointments for CT scans are now available at MSK Bergen on Wednesdays and Fridays, and will eventually take place five days a week.

My wife was diagnosed a year ago with Stage 4 Bile Duct Cancer. Her initial treatments were a platinum based chemo infusion. After a break from the chemo this past summer her Oncologist started her on oral chemo pills, (Xeloda, 500 mg, 3 pills twice a day). There was some shrinkage with the platinum based infusion but we have to wait till late January or early February for another CT scan to see if there has been any results from the oral chemo. As my wife also suffers from Arthritis of the back. Travel from the Jersey Shore to New York was out of the question. With the opening of the Middletown location, she can make a trip there. Would you see any benefit for her to seek any different treatment from your treatment center?

I had tah at msk followed by brachytherapy 11 years ago. Dr geminiani was my surgeon and dr Kaled Alektiar radiation oncologist., I love the kind, professional care and warm welcome I receive at msk.everyone greets me with a smile, from the guards to the cleaning personnel to the receptionists. I've had diverticulitis and need a regularly scheduled colonoscopy and possible polypectomy and biopsy.Physicians here were reluctant to do colonoscopy, due to radiation proxymetry to colon. I usually go to NYC. Will I be able to be screened in Middletown and if I need surgery will I be able to transfer my care to New Jersey? K Rosner Bradley beach nj

I received my breast cancer treatment in MSK-NY and grateful for the outstanding care I have received (Dr. Gemignani and Dr. Mehrara were my doctors). I continue to go to NY for my annual surveillance since I have been cancer free for the past 9 years. Now MSK is right around my neighborhood in Monmouth and hope to transfer my care there. I am even strongly considering to apply for a position in MSK Monmouth in their rehab department. Could you please provide information on who to contact for any job inquiries in that department. THANK YOU.

After being admitted to CentraState Medical through the ER in August last year I am currently at RCCA with Dr. Silverberg being treated with Halavan for recurrence of breast cancer in my liver. I had stage 1 breast cancer and had lumpectomy surgery with Dr. Sacchini at Sloan in 2012; medical oncology with Dr. Toppmeyer (and Laurie Kerstein was at Robert Wood) at CINJ; and Radiation oncology at Princeton Radiology in Freehold with Dr. Neesha Rodriguez afterwards. I am curious to know which hospital you use if and when your patients need to be admitted?

Dear Jennifer, we are sorry to hear about your recurrence. Our staff at MSK Monmouth works with Riverview Medical Center for any MSK Monmouth patients requiring an inpatient admission. Our medical oncologists can see MSK patients while they are there. If an MSK patient is not in serious condition, is cleared to travel, and prefers to be transferred to our inpatient hospital at MSK in Manhattan, we could have the patient transported there. Dear Mary, we’re sorry to hear about your diagnosis. While some minor procedures such as biopsies may be performed at our Monmouth facility, the majority of our cancer surgeries are still performed in Manhattan. However, many patients are able to receive all of their pre- and post-operative care at our regional sites, including all of their presurgical tests, which eliminates many trips into the city. If you’re interested in learning more about becoming a patient at MSK, you can call 800-525-2225 or go to https://www.mskcc.org/experience/become-patient/appointment for more information on making an appointment. My sister was just diagnosed with an advanced stage of bladder cancer. She lives in Florida, but she is interested in a consultation at MSK Monmouth, because your teams are experts in specific cancer types, and because I live 10 minutes from your facility. If she were subsequently prescribed long periods of treatments, could they be performed at a facility in Florida?
Dear Lynn, we’re very sorry to hear about your sister’s diagnosis. If she would like to discuss this option with an MSK expert, she can call 800-525-2225 or go to https://www.mskcc.org/experience/become-patient/appointment for more information on making an appointment. Thank you for your comment.

I have just been diagnosed with prostate cancer with a PSA 1.4. Prostate biopsies were performed. 3 of 9 biopsies reported positive with a Gleason score ranging from 6 (3+3) to 9 (5+4). I have undergone blood work-up for basic metabolic panel. Results are in range. I am scheduled for bone density and prostate MRI with follow-up appointment with Urologist to discuss treatment options. I intend to go to prostate support meetings scheduled locally in Ocean/Monmouth Counties for additional advise/guidance. I trust my Urologist as he found the cancer, but don't know if he will be my best course of complete treatment options. Right now I am confused, somewhat scared, & could use some positive news!

Dear Marianne, MSK Monmouth does not have an Urgent Care Center. However, we do have a Symptomatic Care Clinic on-site, open Monday – Friday, 9AM – 5PM, where any MSK provider can refer the patient for symptom management. At the Symptomatic Care Clinic, patients are evaluated by an Advanced Practice Provider, who then communicates with the primary care team. We are also able to arrange for coordinated infusion and imaging, based upon need.
In addition, the Monmouth Medical Oncology team does have admitting privileges at Riverview Medical Center, for any MSK patient who is admitted there.
Thank you for your comment.

Dear Rocco, we’re sorry to hear about your diagnosis. If you are interested in receiving treatment at MSK-Monmouth, the number to call is 800-525-2225. It is an outpatient facility, so we do not do surgery there, but patients are usually able to receive all of their pre-surgical testing and post-surgical follow-up care at Monmouth. In addition, chemotherapy, radiation, radiology (scans), and blood work can be done at Monmouth. For patients living in that area who need to be admitted to the hospital, our physicians have admitting privileges at Riverview Medical Center and see people there.
