Researcher Michael Berger focuses on massively parallel sequencing of tumor DNA for biomarker discovery and clinical diagnostics.
… The focus of the Berger laboratory is to use novel computational and experimental techniques to characterize the spectrum of genetic mutations in human tumors in order to identify biomarkers of cancer progression and drug response. The identification of molecular drivers of cancer and the development

Cancer biologist Tuomas Tammela investigates cellular heterogeneity in lung and pancreatic cancers.
… The Tammela lab is interested in understanding the remarkable phenotypic heterogeneity of cancer cells within tumors. We approach this question using a combination of sophisticated genetically engineered mouse models, single-cell approaches, tracing and ablation of distinct tumor cell lineages, CRISPR-mediated

The Studer laboratory investigates human stem cells as tools to understand normal and pathological development in the nervous system and to develop cell-based strategies for regenerative medicine.
… Our laboratory aims at exploiting recent advances in stem cell biology to develop radically new therapies for degenerative disease and cancer. The main focus in the lab is on the biology and application of human embryonic stem (ES) and human induced pluripotent (iPS) cells. Pluripotent stem cells can

The Baylies laboratory studies the mechanisms that form and maintain muscle both during normal development and in disease.
… Developmental biologist Mary Baylies studies the mechanisms that form and maintain muscle both during normal development and in disease. Mary Baylies, PhD Professor PhD, The Rockefeller University Achievements Identified that global, regional, and local inputs contribute to nuclear size regulation

Molecular biologist Dirk Remus investigates mechanisms of DNA replication in eukaryotic cells.
… Our lab studies the mechanism of eukaryotic chromosome replication. Chromosomes are the carriers of the genetic and epigenetic information and faithful chromosome replication is of fundamental importance for genome maintenance during normal cell proliferation. We employ fully reconstituted yeast and

Physician-scientist Samuel Singer studies the genomic alterations that define new targets for therapy in sarcoma. I am a surgical oncologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue sarcoma. I have extensive experience with this group of cancers, and am one of just a few surgeons in the world focused solely on treating sarcoma patients. My years of experience have enabled me to devise surgical techniques that improve the ability to completely remove these tumors. In addition to my clinical sarcoma practice, I conduct laboratory research to develop new methods to improve the diagnosis and treatment of sarcoma. I lead both a National Cancer Institute Specialized Program in Research Excellence (SPORE) and the Sarcoma Genome Project.
… Soft tissue sarcoma is a heterogeneous disease with more than 50 histological subtypes, which have diverse biological behavior and – in many cases – unique genetics. Many sarcoma subtypes respond poorly to chemotherapy, so there is an urgent need for better treatment options for patients whose disease

Physician-scientist David R. Jones studies molecular mechanisms governing the development of metastases in lung and esophageal cancers.
… The primary reason people die from cancer is the development of metastatic disease. As a surgeon-scientist who cares for patients with earlier stage lung and esophageal cancer, my laboratory studies why patients with completely resected cancer still develop metastases and die. We focus on a class of

The Łuksza Lab develops predictive models of immune-driven evolution to understand how tumors and viruses adapt under immune pressure.
… The Łuksza Lab develops predictive models of immune-driven evolution to understand how tumors and viruses adapt under immune pressure. By integrating concepts from information theory, machine learning, statistical physics, and quantitative immunology, the lab builds computational frameworks to quantify

Physician-scientist Viviane Tabar focuses on stem cells as tools for brain repair and for modeling brain cancer.
… I am a neurosurgeon-scientist and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. I have clinical expertise in the surgical management of brain tumors such as complex gliomas, meningiomas, and skull base tumors. The lab is focused on two major themes: harnessing the potential of human pluripotent stem cells

The Kushal Dey lab focuses on developing machine learning models and computational pipelines that integrate genomic and epigenomic data.
… The Kushal Dey Lab builds statistical and machine learning models that integrate genetic and genomic data to prioritize variants, genes, and cell types, and to decode the causal functional architecture underlying heritable complex diseases — including immune-related diseases, like Alzheimer’s and inflammatory
