I provide holistic care for bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients, managing both their physical and psychological effects of treatment. I work in close collaboration with a team of interdisciplinary healthcare providers to diagnose and treat early and late treatment-related complications and immunosuppression-related problems. I am also responsible for patient and caregiver education, symptom management, and screening potential bone marrow donors. I have been with the service since 2011.
I joined Memorial Sloan Kettering in 2008, as a clinical nurse on the adult leukemia and lymphoma inpatient service. I participated in the Research Fellowship in the Department of Nursing and received a grant to complete a research study on oncology nurses’ perceptions of end-of-life communication with patients and families.
Prior to my nursing career, I spent several years in clinical research as a research assistant, clinical research coordinator and project manager on a variety of research studies and I presented my work at national conferences and published in nursing journals. I wish to continue to be actively involved in clinical research. I am also fluent in Spanish.
