Cesar J. Figueroa Ortiz, MD

About Me

I am a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. I am board certified in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine and provide care for patients suffering from a wide array of infections that develop during cancer treatment and in people who have weakened immune systems. Some of my clinical interests include establishing prevention and management strategies for infections caused by pathogens that are resistant to common antimicrobials, as well as developing strategies to improve the accuracy and speed of the diagnosis of infections.

Part of my work involves research into the effects of chemotherapy and antibiotics on the endogenous bowel flora of people with compromised immune systems, especially those with hematological malignancies receiving high-dose systemic chemotherapy, with a special emphasis on understanding the mechanisms that allow bacteria living in the body to become resistant to commonly used antibiotics.

Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
