Claire Friedman, MD

About Me

I am a medical oncologist who specializes in treating gynecologic cancers. These include uterine (endometrial) cancer, uterine sarcoma, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer. I have particular expertise in using immunotherapy to treat these diseases. I rely on a shared decision-making approach with my patients to provide their care, and I cherish the relationships I have with them and their families.

Immunotherapy is an exciting, relatively new treatment approach that takes advantage of our bodies’ own cancer-fighting abilities. It has been effective in treating some cancers, including melanoma, bladder cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer. I am studying how we can effectively use certain immunotherapies to treat gynecologic cancers.

When I meet with women who have been diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer, they are often concerned about how their treatments will affect their lives. That’s why I start by asking what’s most important to them. From there, we can have an honest discussion about what to expect.

I also remind my patients that their care team is just a phone call away if they have any concerns. I encourage questions and discussion, and want people to leave my office feeling comfortable and confident in their care plan.

Clinical Trials

Research is integral to our mission at Memorial Sloan Kettering, and clinical trials help us discover better forms of patient care and treatment. For you, this could mean access to a new therapy or therapy combination. Click to see a list of the trials I’m currently leading.

Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
