Get to Know Me
I am a hematologist-oncologist who specializes in treating people with lymphomas, particularly T cell lymphomas and cutaneous T cell lymphomas – a type of cancer of the T lymphocytes (white blood cells) that affects the skin. I see patients at Memorial Hospital and the Arnold and Marie Schwartz Cancer Research Building in New York City, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Monmouth in New Jersey.
T cell lymphomas and cutaneous lymphomas are rare types of cancers, and I am one of the few experts who specialize in these cancers. My expertise involves all aspects of complex care for rare lymphomas including stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies.
Having worked in this field for more than 20 years, I serve as a guide to patients during the diagnosis and treatment journey, counseling them on any questions they may have. I also work on specific protocols for lymphoma transplants especially T cell lymphomas and conduct clinical trials of cellular therapy for these patients.
I aim to provide compassionate and individualized care to my patients. I work with not just the patient but also their family or caretaker on this journey. I try to understand their needs and questions and take the time to address their concerns. I believe in using all resources available to help patients. I have recently been involved with integrative medicine approaches for managing symptoms such as itching and pain.
My father was a physician and he inspired me to become the first woman in my family to pursue a career in medicine. I completed my basic medical education in Pakistan and moved to the United States to pursue my residency in internal medicine. After losing a close friend to breast cancer, I decided to pursue a fellowship in hematology-oncology and was ultimately drawn to the field of blood cancers, stem cell transplants, and lymphoma.
My clinical research has focused on developing new treatments for T cell lymphomas. My recent research has focused on developing a novel conditioning regimen for patients with T cell lymphoma, which is a treatment given to a patient before a stem cell transplant.
When I’m not working, I like to run and swim. I ran my first marathon in 2021 and found it exhilarating. Since then, I have completed a 10k and a half marathon.
I'm a lymphoma specialist, which is a doctor with special training in diagnosing and treating lymphoma (lim-FOH-muh). This cancer starts in the cells of the immune system.
