Rachel Sanford, MD

About Me

I am a board-certified medical oncologist who cares for people with breast cancer. I see patients at the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center in Manhattan as well as at Memorial Sloan Kettering Westchester. I am committed to ensuring that my patients have access to all that MSK has to offer, regardless of where they receive their treatment.

In collaboration with our team of experts from different areas, I create treatment plans crafted for each individual patient’s unique circumstances. To do this, I practice evidence-based medicine, which means I incorporate the latest research findings while maintaining a focus on clear and compassionate communication.

I have a research and clinical interest in the delivery of chemotherapy before surgery, called neoadjuvant chemotherapy, for certain types of breast cancer. This strategy can provide important prognostic information.

I also help my patients access MSK’s cutting-edge clinical trials. The decision to receive treatment as part of a clinical trial versus standard therapy is very important and often complex. I take great care to provide my patients with as much information as they need, explained in jargon-free terms, so they can feel confident in their decisions.

Clinical Trials

As home to one of the world’s top cancer research centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering is typically involved in more than 900 clinical trials at a given time. Currently, clinical trials focused on the conditions I treat are enrolling new patients. Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
