Get to Know Me

I am subspeciality physician trained in transfusion medicine, hemapheresis, and cell therapy. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, I advise on the best practices for transfusion, work with fellow physicians to recommend products for specific transfusion needs, and provide medical oversight for our Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy Service. This helps to ensure that all patients get safe and appropriate blood products.

In addition, I offer medical oversight in the donor room, where I assist in making sure that the facility is safe for those donating whole blood, platelets, and peripheral blood stem cells. Stem cell and lymphocyte collection involves a process called apheresis. During apheresis, one can donate autologous cells (for oneself) or allogeneic cells (for someone else) for use in stem cell transplants or chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies. Through apheresis, we can also perform therapeutic procedures to:

  • Exchange plasma or red blood cells for specific indications.
  • Lower a patient’s white blood cell or platelet counts.
  • Perform extracorporeal photopheresis procedures to treat specific disease processes

I enjoy working in transfusion medicine because I have a strong interest in patient and donor safety, as cell therapy and therapeutic as well as donor apheresis. When we manage the blood supply appropriately and administer it to patients with the greatest need, we help ensure that this precious resource is readily available.

What I Do at MSK

I'm a pathologist, which is a doctor who uses a microscope to make a diagnosis from cell and tissue samples. I analyze these samples to learn the cause and effects of a health issue.
