I am a nurse practitioner (NP) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) who has been an important part of the Thyroid Nodule Assessment Program.
This program was started out of the need to monitor people who want to have a thyroid nodule evaluated closely. Not all patients need to see a surgeon right away, if at all. I work with other advanced practice providers (APPs) to initiate testing, determine if a biopsy is necessary, and refer to a surgeon only if there is a cancer diagnosis. If cancer is not detected, or if the nodule(s) are deemed low suspicion, we continue to follow the patient closely for any changes.
I take great pride in my role in building this program and watching it flourish over the years. I have been an NP at MSK since 2009, starting out at Memorial Hospital. I moved to Memorial Sloan Kettering Monmouth in New Jersey, when the regional site opened in 2016. I have been a part of building the program since that time.
Prior to working as an NP at MSK, I was an RN at several hospitals in Boston and New York City, mainly working in the Intensive Care Unit/Critical Care. At MSK, I have worked in the head and neck surgery department in collaboration with several head and neck surgeons, in addition to growing my independent thyroid nodule practice.
