Education and workforce development are central to GCRT’s mission. Through fellowships, multidisciplinary training programs, virtual learning, and research mentorship, GCRT prepares physicians, scientists, and research professionals to lead cancer research and clinical care in low- and middle-income countries while fostering long-term international collaborations.

• The Nigerian Cancer Research Training (NCAT) scholars program was established in 2021 with the support of the NIH D43 and Oak Foundation. This program seeks to create a cohort of highly skilled investigators able to lead independent oncology research programs, bolster research capacity in Nigeria, and create long-term research partnerships between Nigerian and US cancer researchers. • Project ECHO
  • Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a movement to amplify the capacity to provide best-practice care for underserved people all over the world. It does this through the use of technology, to leverage scarce resources and share best practices. The GCDI program launched three ECHO programs in June 2020: the Colorectal Cancer Management (CCM) ECHO, facilitated by Dr. Kingham at MSK and Dr. Alatise at OAUTHC; the ARGO Pathology ECHO, facilitated by Drs. Marcia Edelweiss and Peter Ntiamoah at MSK, with Pathology partners at OAUTHC and Lagos University Training Hospital (LUTH); and the Portuguese-speaking Pathology ECHO for participants in Brazil, Mozambique, and Cabo Verde, facilitated by Dr. Edelweiss and partners from the Brazilian Society of Pathology. The participation and reach of these ECHO programs have been significant.
