A one-month elective on the GI Service at MSKCC, during which the student will participate in various GI conferences (attended by GI fellows and faculty), observe inpatient GI consultations by the fellows, participate in daily attending rounds, observe GI procedures, and attend outpatient clinic.


  • Assessment and evaluation of patients presenting with GI-related symptomatic complaints in the inpatient and outpatient setting, including clinical history and physical examination
  • Selection and interpretation of GI diagnostic testing, including blood tests and radiology imaging studies
  • Diagnosis and management of GI and hepatopancreatobiliary disorders
  • Indications, assessment, and follow-up of patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures
