Barbara Mitchell, LCSW

Barbara Mitchell, LCSW

I’m a senior clinical social worker who supports patients and their families who are receiving care at Memorial Hospital, the main hospital at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). I focus on working with patients with lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, including those who have gone through surgery.

I also work with patients admitted to the Step-Down Unit at MSK. This is a unit for surgery patients who are too ill to be on a standard inpatient floor but not so ill that they need to be admitted to the intensive care unit.

Besides clinical work, I am an ethics consultant and a member of the Ethics Committee. I graduated from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work where I was a Zelda Foster Studies MSW Fellow in palliative end of life care. I joined MSK in 2017.
