Results from the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health study, a large prospective study, indicate that the risk for advanced prostate cancer and mortality due to prostate cancer was the highest in men who reported concomitant use of multivitamins with selenium, beta-carotene, or zinc supplements. The risk was also high in those with a positive family history of prostate cancer.
Patients should discuss multivitamin use with their physicians.
