Joshua Honeyman, MD
Pediatric Surgeon
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Assistant Attending Surgeon
I am a pediatric general surgeon specializing in the surgical care of children with cancer ranging from infancy to young adulthood. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of experts, I focus on providing the best possible care to your child, incorporating novel treatments and minimally invasive surgical approaches when appropriate.

I use a range of minimally invasive and open surgical techniques to diagnose and treat a variety of tumors and cancer types. I perform minimally invasive surgery whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so, to help children safely and quickly return to their daily activities. Minimally invasive surgery uses smaller incisions than traditional surgery, and patients can experience less pain and a faster recovery with these approaches. Some of these minimally invasive procedures include laparoscopy (which uses a camera and small incisions to see the inside of the abdomen and the pelvis), thoracoscopy (also called video-assisted thoracic surgery, or VATS, which uses a camera and small incisions to perform procedures in the chest), and endoscopy (which uses a camera on a small tube to see inside the esophagus, stomach, lungs, and intestine, without making an incision).
I am passionate about ensuring that patients receive the best possible care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting. To that end, I strive to support patients and their families through one of the most difficult experiences of their lives. I was first drawn to a career in medicine after cancer impacted my family, and I hope to provide my patients the same care and support that my family needed during those challenging times. When I meet with patients and their families, I take time to understand their story, discuss the details of the disease, review the treatment options, and develop a care plan that works for them. I understand that every patient is unique and requires a personalized approach to care.
In addition to my clinical work, I am an active researcher. I study the mechanisms underlying the development of pediatric solid tumors and use these findings to identify new therapeutic approaches. In addition to my basic science research, I am interested in clinical research questions related to outcomes in pediatric surgical oncology, quality improvement, and health disparities. I am also committed to clinical education and training the next generation of surgeons and researchers.
A pediatric surgeon is a doctor with special training in surgery on fetuses, infants, children, and adolescents.
