This is a one-year fellowship program in molecular genetic pathology accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center also offers ACGME-accredited training programs in pathology, providing the appropriate academic environment for training in molecular genetic pathology.

The Laboratory of Diagnostic Molecular Pathology performs more than 25,000 diagnostic assays annually. Fellows will receive training in the performance and interpretation of various molecular diagnostic tests, including next-generation sequencing technologies, in the diagnosis of cancer and inherited disorders as well as monitoring of bone marrow transplant engraftment. While the program covers all areas of MGP training, fellows will gain exceptional training in cancer-related somatic and germline genetic testing and gain exposure to noncancer germline assays. We estimate that each fellow is directly involved in approximately 5,000 cases over the course of the year. The fellows form a key element of the laboratory team and participate in bench work, review, interpretation, and discussion of test results. Test interpretation will take place under faculty supervision.& The volume and variety of molecular testing for somatic and inherited genetic alterations and infectious diseases provide ample opportunity for fellows to become competent in the field of molecular genetic pathology. Additional in-house rotations in Molecular microbiology, Bioinformatics, Laboratory management & Research are provided. Ample opportunity is given for participation in the development and validation of new molecular assays and to conduct research projects.
The fellowship may be used toward board-certification eligibility in molecular genetic pathology.

Eligibility
The fellowship is available to individuals who have completed training in pathology in an ACGME-accredited residency program. Board eligibility in either anatomic pathology or anatomic pathology/clinical pathology is required prior to beginning the fellowship.
All qualified applicants are welcome, but preference will be given to those committed to an academic career in pathology, and in particular to those with prior subspecialty hematopathology, oncologic surgical pathology fellowship and/or with bioinformatics/computational biology experience. An attempt will be made to identify individuals interested in combining two pathology fellowships offered at Memorial Sloan Kettering under the assumption that this experience will provide them with a strong basis for a successful career in academic pathology.
