Michael V. Ortiz, MD

About Me

I am a pediatric oncologist who cares for children and young adults with solid tumors. I have a particular expertise in treating pediatric sarcomas, liver cancers, and kidney cancers such as Wilms’ tumor. Through a combination of quality care, education, and research, I strive to improve the outcomes and experiences of children with cancer.

My research is primarily focused on translating basic scientific discoveries into safer and more effective treatments for children and young adults with high-risk solid tumors. I investigate how these cancers become resistant to our treatments, screen new drugs against laboratory models of childhood cancers, and identify markers to predict which patients would benefit from these additional therapies. Ultimately my research aims to move the most promising treatments from the lab and into the clinic in order to help patients when their cancer has become resistant to standard therapies.

I am honored to work alongside a dedicated team of healthcare professionals. Our doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and others are committed to providing the best possible care for every child.

Most major health insurers offer plans that include MSK as one of their in-network providers. If MSK is in-network, it means all our doctors are too. Medicaid and New York State Medicare also provide benefits for care at MSK.
